Chancellor John Healey delivered his debut budget on Wednesday, introducing increased tax rates on savings and property income that wealth managers have described as a difficult blow for individuals holding cash. While Healey opted against a previously considered reduction to the cash Individual Savings Account limit for individuals under 65, he implemented an additional two percentage points on top of hikes initially planned by his predecessor, Rachel Reeves, which are scheduled to take effect in April 2027.
Jason Hollands, the managing director of the wealth management firm Evelyn Partners, noted that the unexpected increases serve as a major drawback for savers following the fiscal announcement. Additional information concerning the implementation of these tax adjustments and their full financial impact is anticipated as the story progresses.
